Screening

NHS Breast Screening: Helping you decide

The NHS offers screening to save lives from breast cancer. Screening does this by finding breast cancers at an early stage when they are too small to see or feel. Screening does not prevent you from getting breast cancer.

Website: www.gov.uk//breast-screening

Breast implants and breast screening

Breast screening by mammography (breast X-rays) can detect cancer at a very early stage. Breast screening reduces the number of deaths from breast cancer. However, mammography can be less effective in women who have breast implants. This is because the X-rays cannot ‘see’ through an implant to the breast tissue behind it.

Over 71 and being Breast Aware

Breast screening is a way of detecting breast cancer, often at a very early stage. It involves X-rays called mammograms.

This guidance tells you more about breast screening if you are aged 71 or over and what you are entitled to.
